Container history 3-The world is changed by containers

Vessel just stop in the dock, a row of huge crane immediately started up, these cranes are huge steel structures, from the ground 200 feet high, weighing more than 2 million pounds. Their support intervals are 50 feet, completely enough for a few truck lanes even track below by train. The crane parked side by side at the end of  track beside vessels, so that they can move according to need. Each crane out of a crane arm, 115 feet high from the ground, its length is long enough to span a wider than the panama canal ship.

There is an operator in each crane, he can control a trolley slide along the boom. This process repeats every two minutes or even every 90 seconds; each crane can unloaded 30-40 containers from the ship per hour. As part of the ship has been cleared to the port of the containers when loading began again, and the activities of the wharf side becomes more busy. Each time when one crane make one container from the port of discharge to a vehicle, it will follow another car transport from grabbed a departure of container shipped on board, let discharge at the same time of shipment.

On the paved of a mile-long freight yard with asphalt, the container are shipped to the port of the lower part of a stacking crane. Rubber wheel stacking crane span 50 feet, the width is the long enough to span a truck lanes and close to the four COINS containers. Metal structure to connect wheels is 70 feet high from the ground, so the whole machine can across the rows with six containers moved back and forth. Grabbed container by stacking crane, lift it from the transport vehicle, and then across the other containers, put it to its stack location. A few hours later, the process will be reversed, stacking crane will put containers loading to the truck traction steel chassis. Trucks may have to put the goods delivered to destination for hundreds of miles, may also be transported to a nearby railway freight yard, where there is specially designed for transporting containers and train waiting for loading.
